MALAYSIAN INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL STUDENTS CONFERENCE (MIMSC)
The Society of MMA Medical Students (SMMAMS) has been organizing conferences for medical students, annually, for the past few years. Last year, the society embarked on a new journey to broaden the perspectives of medical students in Malaysia by organizing the conference on an international level. Yes, you read it right; the Society of MMA Medical Students successfully organized the 1st Malaysian International Medical Students Conference 2009. It was a huge success which drew 300 delegates from all over the world to the splendid conference venue of "The Palace of Golden Horses".
This year, Society of MMA Medical Students (SMMAMS), in collaboration with University of Malaya organized the 2nd Malaysian International Medical Students Conference 2010, from 13 - 16 May at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, with the theme of "GASTROENTEROLOGY AND NUTRITION". This conference was attended by a group of 250 local and international delegates from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka etc.
Various activities and events were planned out for the period of 4 days. The photos below would give you a better view of what happened during the last conference.
A scientific poster presentation cum oral research paper was held on 15th of May which saw 16 presenters from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
The conference had its fair bit of fun, food and excitement: Gala Dinner was held on 15th May night at the Malaysia Acedemy of Medicine building. Students were clad in dresses and suits to impress and were exchanging social and cultural awareness seamlessly throughout the night.
The Closing Ceremony and Luncheon was held at the Sri Angkasa Revolving Tower at KL Tower showcased an array of Malaysian and International cuisine, a gastronomical delight for the delegates.
Many pleasant memories and professional friendships were cultivated during the course of this conference, contacts were made and rapport built.
On a whole, the main rationale behind the conference was to improve our knowledges and basic scientific research skills, and also to bring together and unite the Malaysian and International medical students, while gaining insight to advancement in medical education on an international basis.
